CBD Isolate

Even if you're new to CBD, chances are you've heard the terms 'isolate' and 'full-spectrum'. These two terms are used to describe two of the main forms of extracted CBD. In this article, we are going to take a look at what a CBD isolate is, how you use this substance and the benefits of this type of product.

For more context on this topic, we also highly suggest reading our article: full-spectrum vs isolate. This article dives into how CBD is extracted from cannabis and how each form is made and differs.

What is CBD Isolate?

Pure isolated Cannabidiol comes in either slab or white powder form. This crystalized form of CBD contains 99%+ potency of the single cannabinoid compound. Many people find comfort in isolates because they contain no THC which prevents any potential drug testing issues.

How is it Made?

Just like any other form of extracted CBD, isolate begins as cannabis - most often hemp. From there, one of several methods is used to create a concentrated extract. This extract is a thick and oily substance which contains waxes, fatty acids, cannabinoids, terpenoids, and other plant materials found in cannabis.

To create isolate, this extract is then further processed using a CBD crystallization technique similar to what is outlined here at Summit Research. This creates the isolate products that are sold or used to create other products.

How Effective is Isolated CBD?

Though a 'pure' form of cannabidiol sounds extremely effective, isolated CBD is actually less effective than full spectrum extracts. When you ingest the full cannabinoid and terpenoid profile that naturally occurs in cannabis you get many synergistic benefits that an isolate doesn't provide. This benefit from full-plant usage is known as the entourage effect.

Despite the fact that isolate is not as effective, many users still find isolate base product, isolate used as an additive, or isolate alone to be effective.

Benefits of Using CBD Isolate

The following are some of the most common benefits of choosing to use this product type:

  • No THC
  • Low Cost
  • Extremely Versatile

How is CBD Isolate Used?

CBD extract naturally binds to fatty acids like those found in oils like hemp, coconut, and MCT oil. This means that when mixed with water, this extract does not dissolve. Isolate on the other hand can be mixed into water and many other mediums to create a wide variety of products.

Isolate is commonly used in the following ways:

  • Mixed with a carrier oil to create an isolate-CBD oil tincture.
  • Added to Capsules
  • Used in Edibles and Drinks
  • Smoked / Dabbed Alone
  • Added to Marijuana Products for Increased CBD Concentration
